japanese gba sp - questions

Ive just had pokemon gba sp arrive, and its currently charging away on my stepdown. However, a couple of questions. Firstly, how long should I leave it to charge for, for the first time?
Also, before I hooked up the gba, I tried getting the adapted off the stepdown, but I couldnt get it off! Is it usually difficult to get the adapter off the plug, or is there a knack to it?

I think it was 18 hours for the first charge, the light will go off after a couple of hours on charge though.
And yes the charging plug is slightly on the tight side, just ensure you grip the plug rather than the cable to remove it - you would'nt want it snapping off!
I can personally recommend the USB charger from Liksang and Play asia, very good quality and does not tie your step down up!
