    SONT PS2Test Vs HDTV

Recently I acquired PS2 Test debugging unit and when I received it turns out to be PAL PS2 Test with 110VAC PSU from factory. I though all PAL territories use either 220 or 240VAC?
Have tested it with my collection of US/JP/PAL PS2 and PS titles via composite connection with no obvious visual defects apart from FMV shown pushed to top left corner a bit - have similar issue running NTSC DC titles on chip'd PAL DC...

anyway I'd like to know if anyone tried to connect via the component/YUV cable to their HDTV and notice any anomaly running various region disc. This really applies to those in PAL land as from what I can find PS2 Test output PS2 titles according to their region coding - i.e. US/JP PS2 titles will output NTSC/60 while PAL PS2 titles will output PAL/50. My main concern is with PS titles. Apparently regardless the region of titles all PS titles when running on PAL PS2 Test will output PAL/60? Is it true? I've searched on various search engines but there aren't many link/information on PS2 Test unit and what I can find only covers basic spec and mainly for NTSC PS2 Test unit.

    TIA

If you are using component video then colour encoding issues don't apply - only 60/50Hz differences will be noticable.

the thing with PS2 Test is with PS2 titles unit ouput whatever region the title is encoded - i.e. NTSC title will output NTSC and vice versa. However with PS2 titles apparently it convert to its native ouput - i.e. on PAL PS2 Test all NTSC titles will output in PAL-60 where as on NTSC PS2 Test I believe it ouput NTSC-50. It's not much of a problem with PAL-50 but I suspect with NTSC TV that NTSC-50(or what ever it's called) can be a trouble...

I'm waiting for the component cable to arrive via mail so I shall find out soon...
      cheers

It's not specific to the test units; all PAL PS2s will output pal video for pal titles, and ntsc video for ntsc titles.

You missed the point though - this doesn't matter if you use component (or RGB).

NTSC or PAL colour encoding only matters if you use composite or s-video.

If you use component or RGB, then you only need to worry about 50/60Hz.

          on slightly off topic.
when I play NTSC titles on PAL unit - for example DC via VGA box - the FMV always bit off centred toward the left. The same thing also happened with NTSC on PAL PS2 Test... it's not much of problem - about 5-10 pixels pushed towards the upper left...

I always wondered what's the cause of it... I noticed this on both CRT TV as well as Plasma screen via composite, S-video and VGA...
