    Japanese PS2 Start-Up

I remember reading in a magazine, P2 I think it was, that the PS2 start-up was the most beautiful thing. I have a misty memory but I sort of remember that they had pictures of like a golden landscape with clouds with the PLAYSTATION2 logo going across it.
Was this just something I imagined, did they drop this, or is the Jap start-up different?

Nope, start up is the same.

Only difference is "O" is the main button for selecting stuff on a JP machine's menus etc. It's "X" on a PAL system. Anyone know the reason why this is?

I was under the impression that O is generally used as the 'main' button instead of X over there on most games because of their smaller hands. It's the same on my PSP...

I thought it was because the Japanese use an O symbol where we would use a tick, so it makes sense for O to be the confirm button and X to be cancel.

A lot of games in their JP version use O and X for OK and Cancel, which is probably because:
              1) The Japanese have smaller hands
              2) O means Yes and X means No
              3) A lot of SNES games use A for OK and B for Cancel

What I never really understood is why the US/Euro Standard is X for OK and Triangle for Cancel instead of that. I mean, I have *very* long fingers and never had any trouble reaching any of the Dual Shock's buttons...

probably due to "2) O means Yes and X means No"
I've grown up watching all those TV talk shows and what not showing O and X.... and to me O=Yes and X=No...

Especially since in some PAL games, it's X=OK and O=Cancel... >.<

That just reminds me of a guy complaining to me his uk metal gear wasnt working as everytime he pressed X it wouldnt start.
I even think the official psone mag had to explain it was O to select start game and not X at one point.

When I got my Japanese PS2 and DDR:Extreme I thought my laser had become trashed in the shipping as there was an odd message when I tried to start it and everytime I pressed x I'd just get the same text again :O
Turned out to be cancel, but you couldn't cancel that text, it'd just show again >-<

I have an original JP PS2, and it's exactly the same start up as the PAL machine I also have.
