    FFT problems

Right I've tested out FFT on my (chipped)ps2 and there's some weird problems with the text at the starting part of the game, I think it's called Orbonne Sanctuary or something. Anyway it's the scene in the church and I can't make out what the text is because it's really blurry and in once case there was just a red box there where the text should have been. I tried the smooth filtering option(from the ps2 main menu) thing to see if that would sort it but it was the same thing. It's really quite annoying and I switched the game off after that, maybe I should try it out further to see if it sorts's itself out.

Anyone else had this problem? Anyone know what's wrong?

It's not a problem nor is there anything wrong - it's the way the newer model PS2s render PS1 games, I had the same problem (tested with same game as you) and ended up switching my machine over for a V5 with Messiah which runs everything perfectly. It's not just Final Fantasy Tactics it's everything, the display mode which the PS2 runs PS1 games in is different to the original, it's like if you are running a emulated game and you turn scanlines off, this is what messes up the text - as soon as the scanlines are back everything looks fine.

Switching disk speed to fast will cause problems on a lot of PS1 games, R4 for example the track surface breaks up, on other games you may get missing text/corrupted sprites/graphics.

I've got a v3 PS2 in my hands here to test for a friend. What differences might I see with PS1 games between this and the v9 I own?

I explained it all above man - it's the same effect as turning scanlines off when running an emulated game on your PC, this effect has come up since the V7.
