    A Gamecube mains adaptor question

Today, my new (well, used, but new to me) Japanese Gamecube arrived. Now, I thought I had my head around the whole mains adaptor/voltage/stepdown transformers issues but something occured to me and I can't seem to find an answer about it in any FAQ.

Basically, I already have a UK Cube. So can I use the power adaptor from that on my Japanese cube? As far as I can see, I don't see why not. It outputs the same as the Japanese adaptor (12V, 3.25A). The only thing I can think of that might be a problem would be wattage (believe me, I am clueless with this stuff so if it sounds stupid that that would be an issue, I apologise)

Any help appreicated. I just thought I should check before I blow up my Cube or buy a stepdown that I don't really need.

    Thanks

Okay, I'm going to fire it up and see what happens. It was only ?19 on eBay so worse case scenario isn't that bad here.

You can provided the console has an external power supply. This is important as only Nintendo consoles tend to have external supplies. The PS2, PSone, X Box and DC all have internal supplies with a simple power lead. Using a UK lead will send 240 volts through the internal power supply blowing it to kingdom come and most likely crippling the machine instead. Don't do it.
It's not exactly completely clear. It certainly doesn't explicity say, yes you can use a UK Gamecube power lead on a Japanese Cube. I don't think you can blame me for double checking.

It's 100% clear, this is the case on every single machine from year dot that uses an external supply and it's not worth listing each and every console that does - there's untold loads of them.

Actually, I meant the FAQ thread sticky, but looking at it now, the actual most asked question is the same but for the N64. Same idea though.

So, you all sorted for an RGB lead? (If not, that's probably your next question).

                  PSone
The PSOne has an external supply. I know it refers to the original machine, maybe there should be a distinction. And import DCs (well, both of mine, before I changed 'em... ) have a slightly different shape lead so you can't plug in a UK lead.

And that text isn't "100% clear" because of the negativity that would cast doubt in the minds of somebody unfamiliar with importing and different power supplies. If it was re-written to say "such and such" FULL STOP, then it would be... if you catch my drift.

What about the PSTwo, isn't that a whole different deal....

Anyways, apologies, I did check the FAQ but I was still unsure so I asked... I just wanted to be 100% sure, rather than interpreted what the FAQ seemed to say. I'm sure the FAQ does seem 100% clear if you already know what you're talking about.

Yeah, the lead that came with the Cube works fine...my TV works with anything you throw at it anyway. Looking forward to some RE4 action coming my way soon.
