Sakura Taisen: Atsuki Chishio Ni (Sakura Wars)

I've heard so much about this game and i'm thinking of buying it? If any of you have this game (for PS2), can you please tell me more about it! It would be most appreciated.

    Cheers.

It's a remake of the original Sakura Taisen which originally appeared on Saturn and then later on Dreamcast.

The game is beautifully presented as a series of anime-style "episodes" each made up of two distinct sections - an adventure section where you converse and interact with the various characters (dating-sim style), and a strategy RPG section (like a simpler Final Fantasy Tactics).

The strategy bits are easy and straightforward to play, but the adventure sections are text-heavy. There are some excellent translations on GameFAQs if you can't read Japanese. They even cover most of the possible branching scenarios, but in the main the adventure bits are pretty linear and only really affect the ending sequence so you won't get lost when following a translation guide.

If you have the patience to play through with the aid of a translation to grasp the story and the characters, it can be a rewarding game. The translations were originally written for the Saturn version and are also applicable to the DC version. However, the PS2 version has had a lot of new stuff added, so if you can't read Japanese but still want to try the game out, I'd suggest getting either the DC or Sat versions over the PS2 one.

It's not a particularly challenging game and is mostly story-based, but for some reason, despite the handicap of a translation guide, I still really loved the series.

EDIT - also have a look at the feature on the site

Thanks for your comments Abhisara. I've made up my mind and i'm going to purchase this game. I had Goemon 2 and the Japanese version of Actraiser and i seemed to got on fine (although, as you say, this is a text heavy game). I guess i'll just need to persevere and in the end hopefully it'll pay off!

      Cheers.

Brilliant series of games. Sadly I just sold all my limited edition DC versions but still have the regular versions.

They are tough to get through to be honest, due to teh language barrier and the majority of the game being text based. But perservere and you will be rewarded.

I just recently playing again DC Sakura Taisen 1.
It is beautiful story and sometime very funny...
You may want to play the rest of series before watching Sakura Taisen The Movie as it will help you to understand the story of the movie - the movie was kind of hour long episode and without some prior knowledge can be confusing...
