Do i need a new SCART cable?

So my copy of Res4 and Freeloader is waiting for me at the Post Office...but i had the thought earlier, will i need a newer SCART cable than the one that came with my Cube?

Am i going to suffer a black and white screen otherwise?

    A) Have you got a US/JPN cube, or is it a PAL one?

    B) Does your current scart cable display an RGB signal?

Also depends on if your telly can display an NTSC signal. No easy way to answer this one without you testing it, but if you're not using an RGB signal already...you should be.

The standard 'Cube lead is composite. This should not be a problem with a recent TV. An RGB lead though will give an improved picture but it will still require an NTSC compatible TV.

An RGB lead does NOT require an NTSC compatible TV because the colour is not encoded. If your TV has RGB in, you are 99.999% certain that it takes a 60Hz RGB signal.

          ummm

hate to be a spoilsport, but every time someone mentions gamecube and 60Hz, everyone starts talking about rgbg scart leads.

why is this exactly? it's pal60 for god's sake! even nintendo says this in the manuals for any 60Hz-compatible games (i.e. that you need an rgb scart).

you'd only need an rgb scart if the console didn't DO pal60. take the playstation/playstation2 for example. they don't DO pal60 (unless the pal mod is performed, of course), so you NEED an rgb scart OR a telly that can do ntsc via composite (yellow/white/red wire combo).

the proof is in the pudding really - my little telly doesn't do ntsc whatsoever. even the manual says so. which is why, if i hook up my ps2 via composite, ntsc runs in black and white. pal60 on the other hand appears in colour through composite (my dreamcast, gamecube, xbox and saturn all display pal60 in colour with no problems)

i could be wrong though, so if anyone has actually experienced a black and white picture using a gamecube in 60Hz with the composite cable, do tell.

you can't get a black and white picture from a PAL cube.

            simple as that.

and you can get a 60hz signal though any cable even RF on the cube, (not that you will get the choice if you are playing an import game)

as long as your tv works with 60hz you'll be fine with what you got
