    Ntsc Psu?

    Hey,

    I live in UK and bought an NTSC XBOX. I made a mistake by using just a regular adaptor to connect to the mains socket instead of a stepdown converter. I was unaware at the time. So now my PSU is fried.

    I have a couple questions regarding this;

    A) Is it possible to use the power supply from my PAL (UK) XBOX, in the NTSC XBOX?

    B) If not, should I get an NTSC PSU, and a stepdown converter?

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Yes to A. In fact, a lot of online retailers sell them.

      Are you sure mate?

      Not that I am questioning you, but I have read in another forum that it is not possible because the PAL PSU is too big (in voltage? 220?) and so it would F up other parts in the Box......

      If you're 100% (again, not questioning your knowledge) sure, I will go ahead and install it tommorow.....

      And does that mean I won't need the stepdown?

        there are two different type of PSU used.
        if you don't mind 3rd party lik-sang sells one that's compatible with all Xbox revisions...

          That'd be cool but it defeats the object if I can use the PAL one.

          It just means A) I have to wait, and B) I have to spend more money.

          I will do that.......but only if it's not possible to use the PAL one from my current PAL XBOX.

          Can you advise? Thanks.

            if you are going to get the PAL PSU to replace make sure you get the PSU with the same connector type as two PSU come with different connectors and not interchangable...

              In an moment of madness I did exactly what you did. Hooked my US machine straight into the mains and fried the power supply!

              I got a 3rd party power supply which didn't actually work - right connector and everything just didn't seem to be working. I sent it back, got a refund then purchased an official UK spec power supply of ebay - brand new for the same price the 3rd party one cost.

              My XBOX now runs perfectly with no problems at all, right off the UK mains with no need for a stepdown.

              Only thing to consider is to make sure you get the right connector on the PSU when you buy one!

                Guys,

                Thanks for your replies.

                First of all, Friction; can you advise on the exact PSU you bought? I've seen some, but wouldn't want to get the wrong one.

                Secondly, I am unsure what to do with regards to looking at the inside of the Box. I will open it later and attempt to figure out it out....what exactly am I looking for with regards to matching different PSU's? Any guides or anything you can refer me to?

                Thanks.

                  I can say specifically what PSU I got, as I got it off ebay!

                  I did look for one that said official XBOX PSU though. The main thing to remember is that the type you want depends on the connector you have.

                  I have attached a picture of the connecter the PSU (and consequently my XBOX motherboard accepts) which if I am right is from a version 1.0 XBOX.

                  You need to see which connector you have and then find the right supply.

                  It's probably worth you sending an email to Will @ Londonconsole.com, or if memory serves g-funk on these very boards is well versed in the innards of an XBOX.

                    Hey,

                    So can you confirm;

                    With reference to that picture, am I looking for the connector that comes off the PSU and connects to the MB?

                    If so; it looks exactly the same as yours.

                    Can you advise? Thanks a lot mate.

                    Edit: [email protected] (Would you be able to refer me to any sites [including this one if they do it] that sell the PSU I need...)

                    Thanks. Sorry, I mean no disrespect here...I gave my email instead of asking for him to advertise here..I hope this is okay.

                      OK, i'm sorry for the multiple posts but here is where I am at;

                      I have both Box's open in front of me. The NTSC PSU has the exact same connecter as the one displayed in your picture.(A single row of 12 holes).

                      The PAL PSU has 2 rows of 10 holes, and also the board (PSU) looks completey different to that of the NTSC PSU board.

                      I am guessing I can not switch between these two. I am also guessing (lol) that this is because the PSU from the PAL box is 1.3, and the NTSC is 1.0

                      So if you confirm this, I guess I will need to buy a PAL 1.0 PSU that has a single row of 12 holes. Can you refer to me one of these? Thanks a lot man.

                        The Picture as you say shows the connector that my PSU has, which plugs into the XBOX motherboard.

                        I purchased mine on ebay so cannot say where you could get another official one.

                        You can get a third part one at Console Plus - this one is a switching voltage one so you can make it work on US mains or UK.

                        Console Plus XBOX Power Supply

                        I'm sorry I can't seem to track any others down at the moment, there are some out there though I am sure.

                        You might also want to consider making a post in the wanted forum as I think some of the people who read here might know where to get them from, or maybe will even have one to sell you!

                          I won't be running away now i've got what I needed. I will stay and try to help others.

                          I may not be an XBOX-hardware guru, but i'm pretty good with PCs and XBOX-software, so if you ever need anything, just shout.

                              I will probably go ahead and get it from that website, Console Plus, as I need it ASAP really. Been waiting for some time to go on Live with the NTSC games.

                              I assume the PC I order needs to be set to 220v so then I can just hook up my regular supply cables?
