Running a USA slimline PSTwo in the UK

Okay, so I just got a slimline PSTwo from the USA to replace my old busted USA PS2 and I thought I'd be safe enough just using the step down power converter I used with the older model with this new slimline one.

I have been told however, that this is unsafe, which I find hard to believe, but the machine does seem to heat up a bit too quickly, so I thought I'd find out exactly what the safest way to run one would be.

    Can anyone help?

I've been told that I can use a simple travel plug converter to run it, is that right?

I think the PSTwo has a universal power adapter. Basically you simply need a plug convertor and you'll be fine. I might be wrong though so wait for a few more people to add their bit before you try my suggestion

Can people please do searches on these things before starting the 14th thread on the same subject.

      Thanks

        Indeed

Ive a US PStwo and it comes with a universal power adaptor as mentioned above, so no problems running it in the UK.

Instead of searching for this kind of answer, why not just read the voltage requirements on the PSU and on the PS2.

          The truth is out there...

            Well, sorry...

I did search the forum but I couldn't find any specific thread on the subject, so I started a new one. I've only just joined the site so apologies.

Basically, I just need to know if it's safe to keep using my step down converter with the new PSTwo. The Sony customer service line said it was, but I'd like to be sure.

Don't use a stepdown. I don't think it'd hurt it, but there's no need when the PSU is universal. (i.e. will work on 110V and 240V no problem).

Double-check the figures on the PSU to be sure

The answer is that I'd suggest you didn't use it. Simply plug a normal 8-shaped two-pin connector to UK plug (like you get with a DC, XBox, Old-model PS2 and most DVD players, for instance) into the external transformer the new-model PS2 comes with.

As described in tons of duplicate threads in this section. The step-down is at best unnecessary, and at worst confusing things.

Okay, I'll try out my PS2 plug lead then, thanks guys.

Excuse my ignorance, but is that the case with Japanese PStwos as well? I hope to get one soon, and 'twould be handy not worrying about various step-downs and the like.
Oh, and sorry if I've brought up a well-worn subject, but I'm fairly new to this importing lark, and not as clued in on the details as the rest of ya.
