    fantastic news,
keep us updated please DS, as much as you can anyway

oh and to the original poster, please don't even consider a Tiny plasma, I have been following the TINY thread over @ avforums and their customer service, or lack of it is a discrace, looking forward to the watchdog episode next Tuesday......

Isn't that almost worse? You sign up for HDTV, it all works nicely, and then at some point you suddenly find that you're stuck with an expensive wok, because it no longer likes the look of your television?

        Almost worse, but not quite.

It allows the market to get a good handle on HDTV before shelling out on a heap of expensive gear (allowing the manufactuers to get the stuff on the street at a decent price)

There are a few nice bonuses to come with the deal, especially if spor tis your bag. A nice surprise will be the hardware requirements.

When I've got the full details of how this will technically work I'll post it here, at the moment I've only got the marketing and some specific technical background info. For the consumer it looks good news.

Sorry DS, I'm a little slow, so does this mean the current crop of plasmas will be fine with HDTV to a certain extent?

I think current plasmas are fine if they support a 720p image. If they have HDMI socket then they SHOULD be fine.

Or at least that's what I last heard...wouldn't be surprised if it's changed again

DS, where did you hear that? Sounds interesting and I'm curious now

I had a tiny plasma in the basket and was ready to order. Then i done some reading over on the av forums and a few others. Dont touch tiny as there customer service is totally unreal. And the product they sell isnt future proof if your looking at hdtv within the next year or so. I went for a toshiba dlp rptv in the end which has a really high res and is fully hdtv ready.

For ?400-500 quid more you can get a decent Panny plasma that'll be future-proof. These are like obsolescent bum monkeys.
Unless your talking about pcs, (which you wouldn't connect to a plasma because of screen burn issues), the above format isn't recognised as hi-def for tvs. The 2 that are being 1280/720p + 1920/1080i (p).

Unfortuantly, Sky's hi-def service will broadcast mainly 1080i50, with some in 720p50. Neither of these can be displayed on your tv I'm afraid. Whereas my lcd lacks the digital connection but does accept 720p50 and 1080i50. Bugger. ft:

What about connections? will you be able to watch tv via component, or is it hdmi/dvi only?
