    x box scart quality

Hey i was wondering what cable to use to get the best quality out of the console. Obviously vga is good but can i expect a quality rivalling that of the dc which outputs its own vga signal. Currently i'm using the component cables but with a scart convertor but to be honest i'm not that bowled over by the quality - the games just don't look "sharp" much. any help much appreciated

Component to SCART? are you sure about that?

If you're going through SCART use an RGB cable. I'm guessing you are currently using Composite to SCART which is terrible.

You're using composite, not component. You could get a VGA adapter, like X2VGA+, which is pretty good. Games that support 480p+ look damn amazing, on par with the DC. The Xbox colours come out a little dark but you can compensate for that, no problem.

edit: I didn't really say; games that don't run in progressive looks **** on a monitor, tbh.

I was disapointed with the xbox Rgb and went for the above linked x2vga through a monitor, gives a much sharper cleaner image, go for that if you can or components though progressive scan.

Do you know how the device you linked to compares to the one EvilBoris linked to in http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showpost.p...4&postcount=25 from the thread about prog scan on Gamecube? That product isn't well described, but I got the impression that it would basically act as a VGA box for any device with standard component outputs. Maybe I misunderstood. The one you linked to is slightly more expensive but doesn't have the added cost of buying new component cables for all my consoles - but only works on XBox.

Yeah sorry slip of the tongue, meant composite. I plan on using just a tv rather than a monitor so would just straight scart be the best?

Aye, if it hasn't got any component inputs on the telly, then your best bet appears to be an RGB Scart lead.

Wait a second....does that mean the new one IS compatable with PAL consoles? If so, I must buy one.

Dunno bud, I guess the overall output is around about the same quality (That page doesn't render properly in Firefox either). Yes, it'll do the job of hooking up VGA to the console. The X2VGA+ is a pretty decent piece of kit too and doesn't need anything extra so it all depends on what you're wanting to hook up.

I gotta say this though, again Interlaced output is shocking on a monitor. So don't bother if you can't do progressive scan

PAL Xbox? No, because it doesn't do progressive scan. Not without a modchip.

I'll second the praise given to the X2VGA+

I got one a few months back and it makes a massive difference when compared to the muddy RGB that comes from the Xbox.

Marklar is right about 480i games looks ****e on it though... unplayable tbh but then I'm not sure I even own a game that doesn't support progressive scan.
