    Turning off HIMEM. how?

    I`m trying to update the bios on an XP Notebook, I boot to the flasher exe from floppy but get a error saying "cannot flash while memory managers are in use eg.HIMEM"

    Could someone tell me how to turn it off, is it maybe something to do with the setup antivirus setting?

    what are the contents of the floppy? does it boot like an old dos disk or something, with himem.sys (not saying that it is this though...) loaded through an config.sys/autoexec.bat?

      Config.sys will probably have a line like
      DEVICE=A:\HIMEM.SYS

      Put a rem in front of that and see what happens?

        Ah right, I see whats happening. I downloaded the bios flasher from a German site and the instructions had to be bablefished. It sounded as though it was saying to copy the downloaded files anto a floppy and boot from that. When I tried that I got a non system disc message so I made an XP startup disc and just merged the files I wanted onto it. There were only 3 files I downloaded, Autoexec.bat a rom file and an exe.

        So I should be able to just edit the config file to get rid of anything to do with himem.

        If I was to try and make my own bootable flopppy what would I have to add to the 3 files to get it working?
