The last PS2 model number before the Slimlines

Hi, before the slimline's took over, what was the last model number the original PS2's? Im after buying one to chip it and use HD Loader but of course, need the drive bay for the HDD.
Whilst Im on that subject, what is the best PS2 modchip to get?

Does anyone know anywhere to still buy original PS2's. There is of course Ebay but importers maybe?

Any advice?
