E-Reader region free......?

Is the e reader region free i.e you can buy jap/us cards and use with a PAL e reader and vice versa.

Reason Im asking is that Ive noticed PA have jap Animal Crossing + reader+cards for ?35 and I have the US AC.

The e-reader is region free in regards to it will work on any gameboy advance / sp.

However the e-cards are region locked & will only work with a matching region e-reader. I can't really say what would happen if you linked a jpn e-reader to the us version of animal crossing as i don't own it. Im guessing the game will refuse to link with it knowing nintendo.
