Connecting a console to a TFT / LCD

What is the best way to connect a ps2, GC or Xbox to a TFT / LCD screen without losing quality?
(the screen only has your standard VGA Analogue D-Sub - i think its called - PC connection)

Freddo, My PS2 is PAL (chipped) and my GC is Jap (though it is a switchable one so I can play US games, but this probably dosent change anything)

      I've been looking at this : http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?optio...id=4&Itemid=27

These any good, Ive read good things on the net, mostly with Xboxes, but my PS2 should show good results right?

with your cube its easy, all you need is a modded vga cable (about ?50) and games which support progressive scan and you'll get a great picture.

xbox you can use things like x2vga (try putting that through google) so long as your xbox is set to ntsc/480p mode you'll be fine, very few games dont support 480p.

not sure about the ps2 though, since most games are interlaced only your options are limited to low quality or exceptionaly expensive, I dont really know the best way to do it hopefuly someone else will.

ps: that transcoder looks cool but it needs progressive sources by the looks of it, i.e ntsc xbox, most jpn/us gamecube games but hardly anything on the ps2

I found this FAQ on their website,

It says you 'could' use an NTSC>PAL convertor, would this kill the quality, even though the correct signal will be fed into the VD-Z3 after conversion? Also, are you saying the games themselves have to have a progreesive scan mode? Even if they didnt, eg, the PS2 games, would they still play or would the picture be completely distorted?

I didnt know the PS2 could do progressive scaning, it does have component video output though.

you couldnt really use a pal-ntsc converter, since they state you need progressive sources, and you cant get any of the pal consoles to output 575p, also any pal-ntsc converter would be unlikely to support progressive scan, I'm unsure as to why they even suggest this to be honest.

none-progressive games will be unplayable, your monitor will just say "frequency out or range" or totaly ignore it.

ps2's can output progressive scan for a very small number of games (jak+daxter2 and the getaway are the only ones I can think of)

So the only way to connect a PS2 to a TFT monitor is with a standard connection (composite) to VGA convertor. This way all games will be playable, but would the picture quality be terrible?

pretty much yeah, unless you spend a lot of money on a decent de-interlacer.

Can you reccomend any de-interlacers and advice where to buy?

                  Cheers Freddo, Mark.
