help my dying modded dreamcast :(

I have a pal, chipped dreamcast, it has just developed a problem via rgb scart it only gives sound, through rf it gives ****e piccie (as ud expect) and sound, at first i thought lead was buggered, so i got 3 off ebay, 1 official and 2 3rd party, alas all leads still only give sound NO PICCIE :*( so i think we can safely say its a console problem and not a lead related problem (or tv problem)

any ideas b4 i buy another one?

    cheers

The official SCART cable only has the RGB pins enabled (no composite) so it has to be connected into a socket on your TV that supports RGB. If you don't you get sound but no picture.

This happened when I first got mine but it is mentioned in the slip of paper that comes in the box that they try to fob off as instructions.

Why don't you just buy a 2nd hand DC and the DCX boot disc m8. Cash Generator do DC's for ?19.99. Got to be cheaper than repairing.

Also, there are a couple of US titles that don't like the RGB Scart, for some reason. That isn't your problem here, but I thought you should be warned. My NBA 2k game runs fine on DC-X through RGB right up until the point where the main menu appears, then you can hear it working but have a black picture.

If you're in or around London, I think you can still buy a brand new PAL DC for ?40 from HMV.

I got one just before Xmas. I needed it as a backup for my Jap DC in case my nieces or nephews broke it during wild Samba De Amigo or DDR sessions at Xmas.

Probably a console problem as the DC needs to be told to switch to RGB mode. RGB leads not plugged in properly will cause the machine not to be in RGB mode. As a last resort try cleaning the AV connector on the back of the DC, could be fiddlely but with a cotton bud and alcohol and a matchstick could fix the problem. As a final resort you could hard wire the machine internally to switch to RGB mode that might solve the problem if the problem is a connection problem.
