    Gamecube freeloader question

    Hi all,

Am i right in thinking that if you use a free loader with games like the pal version
of skies of arcadia (that only supports 50hz) the free loader forces the game to output pal60?

I have tryed this and it gets rid of the boarders but am wondering if it is running in 60hz

    Thanks!!

I've tried this with some 50hz PAL games on my PAL cube but none would work at all. I'd say get the NTSC version of the game, those will always run in 60hz.

does that mean that no pal 50 hz games will work on a ntsc cube? as that my be the problem that im having.

nlunch. what happens when you put the game disk in, do you just get a black screen?

I'm assuming he means 50hz PAL games on a PAL cube, I've no idea about 50hz PAL on an NTSC cube.

why would you want to use a freeloader to load a pal game on a pal cube?... does that make it run in 60 hz

Actually, PAL Resident Evil 2 and 3 were both boardered and slower... but when you boot them with Freeloader on a PAL Cube, they get forced into 60Hz! I do this myself.

I don't know if other games do this also, but I don't see why not.

Thats what i think it does, but i'm not sure

I mean, it gets rid of the black boarders on skies and timesplitters at least. I am running a pal cube with with a freeloader on pal games to get the 17% etra gain and get shut of the boarders on 50hz only, thinking the freeloader forces the game into either ntsc or pal60

Can anyone confirms this works right or do i have this all wrong?

Well I thought of the same thing and tried a few (Dragonball Z and a few other I can't remember) and they all came up with a black screen. Good to know about RE2 though, atleast now if I see a PAL copy for cheap I won't have to worry about it being 50hz only.

Strange that that doesn't have a 60hz mode really, both PAL REmake and RE0 have 60hz.

it must mean that if a game can be pushed to 60 hz you get rid of the boarders and if it cant then all you get is blank screen.

pressing Z at the freeloader screen will pop up a choice of US, UK or JAP mode. Try booting a UK game in US mode and see what happens, if the game isn't booting by just swapping the discs.

It's similar to the XBox - quite a few pal50-only games I've tried in NTSC play just fine. However, as the XBox does hardware stretching, I've never come across a pal50-only game with borders. The only game I've tried that doesn't really work in NTSC is 007 Agent Under Fire (the game is ok but the movies are blank)

I only have 3 games on my cube - pal resi evil, pal rogue leader and jap waverace. the pal games all do 60hz anyway...

Well, like say say i have only tryed it with two and they work perfect!

                        Skies of arcadia 60hz 8)

Even if it is only getting rid of the boarders i think thats worth doing in itself (on some games anyway!)
