Capcom Vs SNK 2 (US PS2) bug?

I dont think this is normal, but my copy at the menu screen goes quickly through all the choices as if someone is holding right on the joypad. This occurs also when I pause the game and the menu screen comes up. During fights my character doesnt start to move on its own, and I can select a character without any problems.
I initially thought I had turned the game on with the arcade stick not in the neutral position, but I have tried it several times since (with arcade stick and normal dual shock) and it still does it.

Anyone got any ideas?

is the player 2 pad face down on the floor with the analogs pressed in? I've had a similar problem, and thats what the cause was.

Stroppa thanks for the suggestion but I am almost 100% sure they were not. I will try and take out the second controller all together and give it a go.
