Play US and Japanese games in 60 hertz mode. I've had a chipped machine before, but can;t remember.

      yep
it will output whatever PS2 titles are encoded for.
However on chip'd PAL PS2 the NTSC PS1 titles will be displayed in PAL-60 instead of NTSC I believe... which can be a headache for those w/ chip's NTSC PS2 since any PAL will be in NTSC-50. from what I heard not many TV can handle NTSC-50...

        That's quite strange actually.
I have a Breaker Pro bootdisc, as a stopgap until the DMS4 Pro EZI is avaliable, and it outputs NTSC games in NTSC.
Not very well mind you, loads of Y-Fix issues... =/

To be on the safe side, just run the PS2 with an RGB cable

That's the case for the Cube, but I very much doubt it is for the PS2. My unchipped one outputs PAL PS2 games that have 60Hz mode as pure NTSC, not PAL-60, so I'd be surprised if it knows how to do PAL-60 in PS1 mode.

Depends on the chip. A lot of chips have had problems with PS1 games. As far as I know a lot don't play NTSC for PS1 at all - some play at 50Hz PAL, others I'm not sure what exactly they display.

You would want to check the particular chip you will get before deciding.

I have SONY PAL PS2 Test running on 110VAC.
It runs all NTSC PS1 titles as PAL-60...

Really? Wow. I wonder why they can't do the same for PS2 titles, as it would have been rather more sensible to do it that way.

My Messiah 1 PS2 outputs NTSC PS1 games in PAL 60. Apparently some versions of the Messiah 2 don't play NTSC PS1 games at all.

PS2 Test runs PS2 titles according their region coding so NTSC-U/NTSC-J will display in NTSC while PAL will be in PAL with either 50 or 60 if the title supports

PS2 TEST's play PS2 games from any region without problems.
60Hz on PS2 is always NTSC btw. (not PAL60)

Same cannot be said of PS1 games though. I can't remember what deck I had a problem with but it couldn't play PS1 titles from an 'incorrect' region. It would boot but the video signal was completely barfed.

if you play PAL PS1 on NTSC PS2 Test you won't get any picture unless your TV can handle NTSC-50.
That is why I got PAL PS2 Test as it will do PAL-60 for all NTSC PS1 titles... and most PAL TV can handle this one without any problem...
