No sound for PS2 NTSC

Hi every1!

Finally, I decided to get a NTSC console, just for Xenosaga, Xenogears, future FFXII, etc.

So yesterday I plugged the PSTwo, connected the cables (I use RGB), and went to play Xenosaga - it was great!
However, today the console shows complete lack of SOUND - no sound on starting screen, when it boots, no sound in games whatsoever. The funny thing is that everything else seems to be working - graphicks, loading areas, etc. The only problem is with sound.
I tried two TVs, two cables - RGB and supplied SCART cable, as well as running in Diagnostics mode - nothing helped!
Question: to I have to get it repaired, or have I clicked some uber-secret option, that made all this?

Try fiddling with the digital output options in the PS2 settings.

Do you get any sound when playing DVD movies?

Sounds like the PS2 is faulty.
