problems outputting RGB from NTSC 'cube

    A strange one this...

I've recently acquired a (Saurian modded I believe) cable to connect my Gamecube, but it doesnt appear to be working properly.

It's connected, along with an xbox and an NTSC PS2 via a scart multi adaptor to one of 2 rgb scart sockets in the back of my TV. I peviously had the cube connected with another modded cable, directly into the TV and had no problems.

Now, when the adaptor is switched to the GC socket, the TV doesnt get an RGB signal, it gets a standard colour signal. So the problem is with the multi scart? Well when I connect the cable directly into the TV, same problem.

But the bizarre thing is, with the cable running through the adaptor and no RGB, if I switch on one of the other consoles, the output from the GC switches to RGB! and all is fine!

i'm not quite sure where to look for a solution.....

You sure it's one of mine? I always make sure the voltage for the mode select is spot on, nothing bizarre about it - the voltage to pin 16 of the SCART connector needs to be adjusted (or may not be there at all due to machine fault). Try replacing the resistor with a 300ohm (which is what I use anyway, but just incase it's not) one, it wont be a mess inside the SCART casing if it's my work, you'll see what needs to be done and the resistor will come out easily (just make sure you insulate the replacement the same way)

By leaving another machine on and plugged into the splitter you are using the voltage from another machine's cable for the RGB mode select (which leads me to suspect that your machine is not outputting the voltage or it's not one of my cables as I ALWAYS have a functioning mode select)

TBH it may not be the cable at all - I've come across Gamecubes with no 12v line from the digital AV port, so you may not be getting any power there at all and that's why you need to force the mode via another machine.

          Saurian,

It was bought off Stroker Ace on the forum. I think he said it was one of yours, I could be wrong though!

Anyway, reading your post, I kind of understand what you are saying, but as I dont even know what a resistor looks like, I'm a bit stuck! Any chance you could look at it for me if I bung it in the post? I'm sure I can cover a small fee.

You mention it may not be the cable at all and the 'cube may not be outputting correctly, but as i said, a previous cable (bought from Goblin) worked fine so I dunno....

I dont work on electronics at all anymore, I've still got a soldering iron tho and changing a resistor is minor, I think I still have some. I'll PM you my address.
