you dont need any drivers for the actual drive .. but you may need the latest atapi drivers

ok so ive installed the drive and it all seems to be working fine but i have this weird problem when im playing a dvd. the sound keeps on going really quiet for a about 4 seconds and then increases back to its normal level.. could this be a problem with atapi drivers like someone above mentioned?? also where would i download the latest atapi drivers from?

edit-- forgot to mention the drive before my new one was a dvd rom drive not a dvd-rw. by changing to a new dvd-rw would i need to change the atapi drivers?

I doubt it's a drive issue there mate.

What DVD software are you using?
          What soundcard?

DVD movie audio is a stream not discreet sounds. The volume won't change unless something is affecting the output. Try disabling Dolby DRC from within the software perhaps.

And no, you shouldn't need to update atapi drivers. (ASPI is a possibility but is not required for most people these days)

using media player 10 and interwin dvd 4. mostly the problem happens in media player. im using the onboard sound from my mother board going into an external amp. ive updated the drivers for the onboard sound and that hasnt helped. the thing is mp3's dont have this problem, its only movie audio. may look into getting a standalone soundcard, can anyone recoment a cheap good one?

If by movie audio you mean Dolby 5.1 then set everything to spdif passthrough and use Coax or Optical into your amp.

Maybe even try setting the movie to playback in Stereo only from the movies frontend?

Does the audio work when playing through the Interwin app?
