Free program to check for Viruses, Spyware, Trojans etc.

Is there a free and safe program to find out about any "evil" files on my computer?

I have my system now running since many years and would like to do an overall check if my computer if completely free of viruses, spyware, trojans and whatever annoying programs exist else.
From time to time I check my computer for viruses with an old version of Norton AntiVirus (Virus-list updated online), but I don?t know which programs to use to check for other "bad" files.

So, which program do you recommend?

    AVG Free Anti-virus
    Ad-aware Anti-spyware
    Spybot Search & Destory Anti-spyware

Can't go wrong with a potent mix of AVG Free Edition for busting viruses (from www.grisoft.com), then AdAware Personal (from www.lavasoft.com as I recall) and Spybot Search & Destroy (from somewhere or other... security.kolle.de or something) for getting shot of spyware, and finally Outpost Firewall (from... ummm... www.agnitum.com I think) for keeping nasty **** out in the first place.

Works for me, anyway. All free, and all reliable.

Right now I'm using AVG, Avast, and Antivir.

Each one picks up things the others miss.

Thanks, the links are very much appreciated!

The router I use has some kind of firewall included, so I guess I don?t need an extra program for that.

There's already a thread all about this sort of thing.

See if you can spot it at the top of the forum page.
