    Setting 480p on xbox.

Trying to use a VGA box, but my xbox is set to 480i... i need to change it to 480p.

Can anyone give me the step by step on changing it, as i cannot see the screen as obviously the Monitor doesnt support 480i.

Btw its a pal xbox changed to ntsc.

you need M$ HD AV pack in order to enable HDTV option under the video setting...
then you simply hook three wires to your VGA box and on to your VGA monitor... be warned though you won't be able to see your dashboard on your VGA monitor unless you have patched it and navigating video setting in dark can be tricky...

it a straight VGA box so doesnt require component cables, but as its designed for a 480p dash (ntsc) and mines a pal dash (480i) i can do nothing but navigate blind

plug it into a normal tv and change the options there?

edit: if you already have, press l+r and click both sticks (I think) which will enable 480p in the dash.

i cannot plug it into a normal tv, as it doesnt display the hi def options

Also the L+R and both sticks is a function of the later 480P NTSC dash. It doesnt work in the PAL 480i dash.

hook up to normal TV and run Fable PAL if yo have. You will be able to update your dashboard with that disc. Once done, you need to get hold of HD AV pack - just burrow from someone - and connect Yellow cable to your TV's composite input. You will see B/W picture of dashboard. Go to the video setting and enable HTDV option. Now plug in your VGA box to VGA monitor and do the double click trick to switch the dashboard to 480p...

I think this has been asked before. Try doing a search you might find instructions how to change the settings blindly.

                Not quite true.
It was an Xbox Live update for both NTSC and PAL machines from ages ago that enabled this method of getting a 480p dash if your Xbox had it's video mode changed to NTSC using the Enigmah Videomode Switch Disc app.

You can do it blindly by booting the Xbox without a game in and then holding L+R and then clicking in the thumbsticks - you'll see it change there and then if you've got the update and the proper lead plugged in.

                  hmm thats even more puzzling

Ive checked it set to ntsc(doesnt display PAL60 in the options) and tried the L+R and thumbsticks but it didnt do anything

what vga box is it? and how about the monitor, maybe it can't handle it?

(my monitor, thru x2vga, does display a 480i signal although it looks gash)

Tried 2 CRT's, a TFT, and a plasma. Ive ordered a component cable (can use it on the other xbox anyway)

Also ta to Treble for sending me a button press order

what kind of VGA box is it?
Two homebrew bases ones I know both use Component signal off Xbox and transcoded to RGBVH - they are basically simplified YUV->VGA trancoder.

                        cheers

If you have the X2VGA+ you can view 480i by pressing the button on the front of the VGA adaptor.

As for the button presses to activate the 480P dashboard, everything mentioned in this thread so far is correct. When you download the new dashboard updates over XBL you are actually downloading both NTSC/PAL its just the video output of the machine its downloaded to that dictates which is viewed so if you have changed to NTSC dashboard and it isnt displaying the PAL60 option try the button presses again with the VGA adaptor all setup and connected to a monitor that you know supports 480P.

If you are trying to do the 480P dash activation when the VGA adaptor isnt connected it wont work at all... plus you have to have a VGA adaptor that actually does support 480P in the first place and not a crappy upscanning POS.
