PSTwo PAL vs. NTSC - different parts?

Ok, now the guys from my local Sony store tell me that they can't fix my PSTwo USA, as they can't order parts, because "the console is not destined for the EU market". No some of you might remember that I had this problem with no sound...

My question: do PSTwo NTSC and PAL versions really differ in construction, so that you need different parts? It sound plain stupid, but you never know when it comes to Sony...

unless of course it was the motherboard, which of course is the only part that will differ.

So the question is whether or not the damage is on the motherboard, right? Does PSTwo have an independent sound module? It would be logical, as I'm still getting the image, and game loads fine with new areas, movies, etc., just no sound...

There are a few differences, the BIOS version, the extra modem board+port, and the model number.

Regardless of whether the parts are available or not, the fact that it is not a UK machine means that Sony, or indeed any "Official" service centre won't be interested.

Any chance you can get in contact with the shop where you bought it from? Do you have any contacts in the US perhaps?

Contacting shop in the US is the last step = couple of days there + couple of days being repaired + couple of days getting back. What I will do, is get from Sony what EXACTLY is wrong with it and what part is needed to fix it. I've got two service centers who can look into it. We will have to wait and see.
