    PSP Power through USB

just found a usb power cord which came with my Asus wireless AP WL-330g.

I plugged the other end into my psp and it fits perfectly!!

so now im wondering whether i cld use that to charge my psp?

the stepdown on my psp charger says: output:5V 2A
and the input on my Asus wireless says: 4V 1A

its a bit lower on pawer, wld it work?

your both right in a way, you cant charge it with a normal USB lead, the one from PA attaches to the PSP's power socket.

Yeah sorry, I wasnt very specific. The USB port doesnt accept power to allow a charge was what I was getting at.

I bought one of those USB charger cables from Play Asia today actually, and wondered the same thing. Is there any way such a cable could overload a PSP and/or damage the battery?

For instance, at work I have four USB ports on the front of my Sony monitor, but I'm not sure if the current/voltage coming out of those would be the same as, say, the ones on the back of my keyboard at home.

I highly doubt it would cause any damage, but I'm still not 100% sure. Is anybody else using one of these cables to charge their PSP, or just run it from 'mains'...?

It'll barely charge it at all, tbh. I think USB outputs about 3.5volts? Only good for a top up, if that...

Does anyone know if the USB charger that comes with SPV C500 phones is suitable for charging Japanese PSPs? Would rather ask before trying mine...

Well, mine seems to be working. The pigeon English on the box says it should take 3 hours to fully charge, so we will see...

USB hosts provide a well regulated 5.0VDC, which is exactly what the PSP DC in port requires (according to the English PDF manual I have seen).

Strictly speaking a USB compliant device shouldn't try to pull more than a very few mA though, until it has negotiated with the host... the simple cable is not going to do that, but it really shouldn't pose a problem unless you are running a lot of other power-hungry USB devices from the same host.
