I've got an old 1084s that I used to use with my Atari ST and I've heard that you can connect consoles to it. I want to hook up my Megadrive and was wondering if anyone knew how to do it.

Answered this on another forum recently. (not same person I hope)
I've already had experiences trying to connect 60hz NTSC consoles to a 1084s monitor and it cannot be done through the 6pin din socket. Unless you are inputing a 50hz PAL signal the picture will roll, although the colours etc will be ok. It may be unable to accept a 60hz signal. (???)
Used mine for A500 (and C64 through the 3 phono inputs - red/white/yellow)
You may notice a gap on the rear where the inputs are, this is where a SCART socket used to be on the PHILIPS equivelant (the 1084s is a philips monitor with a CBM case/badge on) and was probably removed to either reduce costs or they felt the UK market didn't need one (never seen pics of US version).
If you remove the casing you will notice a gap where the SCART socket used to be, the circuitry is still there, minus the female SCART socket. It is possible (because I had mine done) to have a female SCART socket re-fitted and by fitting a HORIZONTAL/FAST BLANKING SWITCH (???) use both PAL and NTSC signals.
However it is probably too expensive or a peculiar job to get done nowerdays.
The only benefit was the better than TV quality picture and the screen size/placement controls.
Unless someone knows different......

I've dug this monitor out of the depths of time and thought it was about time I re-opened this topic!
I've hooked the monitor up via composite and the picture isn't rolling, but it's outputting in black and white:
I've got a cable which will connect my Mega Drive up via the DB9 socket, but I've got to wait for a gender-changer to arrive before I can try it out (the monitor has a female socket and the cable also has a female socket).
However, I'm guessing that unless I use 50hz, the picture will roll as Gamerade suggested. Unless anyone knows any different?
Is there any way to get a 60hz signal on one of these monitors?

I'm so happy I could literally kiss you. I've been looking for something like that ALL DAY today on the net and had found bugger all.
Thanks for the link!
I'm still a bit concerned about the black and white picture though...if this is a 50hz monitor that I have, surely I'll get the same issue when I try and input a 60hz RGB signal?

RGB is RGB man. I believe it's sort of universal, ergo 60hz will be fine on the monitor.
Post some pics after, I want to drool at some pure unconverted, unupscaled 15khz RGB. :3
The reason composite is in black and white is because of the Neo Geo hardware. If you plugged in a late PlayStation (SCPH-7000 onward) it would display 60hz in colour.
EDIT: Or it'd be rolling, I think. Regardless, RGB is sexy time and breaks all the rules.Last edited by speedlolita; 20-02-2011, 23:37.

I've fired off an email to the seller of that adapter and he should be able to help - but in the meantime, your optimism has filled me with renewed hope. I really hope this works, because I've dreamed of getting this screen to accept a pure RGB signal for years. And that adapter means I can plug in my MD, Neo and Super Famicom, too!
Cheers again for the link!

Seems like this guy agrees with you.
If it's just compo-****e that is affected by the black and white issue then I'll be laughing.
