    Win 32 services problem

Right for a few days now whenever I first boot up my comp I get a window saying 'Generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close' . If I then look at the details I find the following error signature -

    szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : unknown
    szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

I havn't actually noticed it causing particular problems with the pc but was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and knows how to get rid of it? I've tried using the XP CD to check for corrupted files - of which there were none and also scanned for spyware and viruses..and there's nothing.

If anyone has any ideas thanks!

Well I did a serach on technet and I noticed ones of the articles in the KB refers to the problem being with a HP printer - and I've seen some other threads about that too. But I'v been using this HP printer for quite a long time now and it's not caused this problem before so It must be something I installed recently I think. Anyway thanks for the tip.

A svchost process gets spawned when running **** out from DLLs. If you look in Task Manager you should see a number of them at any one time.

Looking at the data you're seeing in the error message - it could be anything.

Go and download StartupCPL (it's free), it'll tell you exactly what is starting up with Windows, disable anything you don't want/looks funny and see if the problem is still there.
