Did you ever decide on the best VGA box ?

Read back over quite a few topics from last 6 months and mixed opinions on most of them, after one to connect PS2/Cube/XBox to a 19" CRT monitor, so doesn't need to be mega fancy and don't mind swapping cables if needs be, just want some recommendations (obviously with great picture quality please).

This one seems OK, anyone got it ?

Stay away from the XGA-Box. The picture quality is quite horrible!!! Even when you replace the included VGA-cable with a high quality one it sucks badly still IT can not run in resolutions higher than 1024x768 in the PC environment and games don?t look too hot either. The sound is rather bad as well.



Further more be aware of the fact that with all VGA-boxes you are limited to playing the games that are assigned to the consoles? native region. If you have a PAL Console you can only play PAL Games in colour. If you have NTSC console you can only play NTSC games in colour. Games of different region as apposed to the console will be displayed in black & white. With the exception of certain Xbox games, I think.



Compatibility with TFT Monitors can be an issue with certain VGA-boxes. Note also that most of these VGA-boxes can accept S-Video ? I highly recommend using S-Video if available for you cause it?s WAY better to look at than the crappy composite. Still it does not compare to a decent RGB cable (which unfortunately are not compatible with VGA-Boxes).



I planned on using a VGA-box but ended up buying a TV eventually (even though I didn?t really have the cash nor the place for one) simply because the quality of the (gaming) VGA-boxes are far below my standards.

Ive just got a cheap 21" crt monitor and im quite interested in having a recommended VGA box like davidholliss has asked.

Any views/recommendations would be great
