    USB Xbox Saves

My Xbox is really starting to play up due to the Thompson drive so I think I will need to replace it soon. I have lots of save data on it that I don?t want lost, but a normal memory card wouldn?t hold it all and I can?t mod the console as it will void the warranty.

So? I was looking at buying a Max Drive USB memory card for it. After reading what you get in the box it just seems to be a 16mb USB Pen Drive and a USB to Xbox adapter. I remember seeing a USB to Xbox lead on Play-Asia and LikSang so I thought about getting a cheep 128 USB Pen Drive, this would be quite handy as I could use a USB Pen Drive, but it seems a bit pointless owning one smaller than 128, especially as 128 pen drives are only about ?10 now.

After looking under product descriptions for the cable its states.

Use a Flash UBS stick as a memory card
Use a Keyboard or Mouse on your games
Use a USB charger to charge your devises from your Xbox.

But After looking under product FAQ its states.

Q: Can I use any Usb peripheral with this cable i.e, Pad, Gun, Wheel, Stick.
A: This adapter doesn't specifically support *any* peripherals; it only allows them to be connected to the XBox by converting the XBox controller port to a standard USB connector. It is up to the game or software to provide support for any specific device. This cable is mainly intended to be used with XBox Linux, which does support many third party USB devices.

Q: Can I Use Usb Pen Drive With This If The Usb Pen Drive Says No Drivers Needed?
A: The reason the Pen Drive doesn't require drivers is because Windows (and other compatible operating systems) already has support for the device built-in. The Xbox itself will not support the device. It is possible that the device is supposed under Xbox Linux, check to see if the device is supported by linux first.

So? it also seems that doesn?t work, But Ive herd that you can make a USB to Xbox cable and use a flash stick as a memory card on an unmodded console? but I cant fine this mod anywhere.

Anyone know anything about useing a FLashstick on an Xbox or has a solution to my problem?

**** all that. If it is under warranty, MS will replace the DVD drive and that's it.

If you buy a MAX drive, you get a cable with the card. You'll be needing the disc to use it on your PC because it is crippled so to not show up as an extra drive in Window (that, and the .max saves are a specific format nicely translated by the software to a normal Xbox save). The MAX drive functions like a normal memory card though so you still won't be able to back everything up, you will only be able to do that if you can soft mod it up and FTP your data off the disc (yes, you can do this with the MAX drive).

That said, my first point stands. edit: Least hassle solution would probably be to buy another DVD drive for it; check eBay.

I bought a Mega-X-Key from Lik-sang which is a 32mb USB pen drive but comes with cable and (PC) software for transferring saves to acrhive on the PC and vice-versa.

If you get a replacement Xbox back from MS (i.e with a new Serial No and HDD key), be aware that some gamesaves can't be transferred to another Xbox, because they are digitally signed by your original Xbox. With some hacking, many gamesaves can be resigned, but it's a fairly technical (if straightforward) process.

Some games such as Knights of the Old Republic cannot be transferred at all, and Tecmo are pursuing hackers of their games so the information about resigning their gamesaves is becoming harder to find.

If I buy a new DVD drive wont it ban my Live account, as it saves a list of your Xbox details like Drive, HD etc?. as far as I know.

I am not sure if my Xbox is still under warranty as I?ve had it about 2 years, but a mate of mine works in game and I might be able to buy a new/take back old or even trade it in, this is why I don?t want to mod it. If the warranty is over 2 years I will get them to sort it out, but then they might change it over and I would have lost all my data.

Thanks for the info though, I will stay away from the Max Drive.

I am aware about this, but I have so many custom saves and game saves over 70% that if I could save half I would be happy. Plus the possibility of Emailing stuff to my friend who has a modded box could be really handy

        Edit:
        I just saw this: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Mods/bet_..._is_bigger.htm

If I could uses a Flash stick that would be ideal. My local PC part supplier NovaTech have some great deals on Flash sticks right now. They are selling a 256mb stick for ?18, these sticks are rebranded sticks made by Buffalo? apparently. This stick is not on the compatibility/non-compatibility list but they also sell Freecom ones that are, so I could take the buffalo stick back if it isn?t working. I?ll just have to try it.

No, not your DVD drive -- I've replaced mine on the original 'box I had and I'm still smashing **** to pieces of Live. If it is 2 years old, it isn't under warranty.

Great I will probably try that then, it is just an IDE right?

If I need to flash the bios or anything other than just switch it over, do you have a link to a How To Guide?
