    Ordering a PS2 from Videogames + & Slim PS2 Question

Sorry if this has been asked before (probably has), I did a search but couldn't find anything.

I'm interested in ordering a US PS2 (Slim one) from VG+. I noticed on the site that the postage for this is around ?33 which I assume will be some form of courier (UPS, FedEX or another?).

Will VG+ mark the package down for me? I obviously really want to avoid the dreaded customs and import VAT charges!

Also regarding the new slimline PS2 machines - Are they any known problems with them? I remember hearing about some not playing games, some have laser problems etc. Anyone know anything about any of this?

I know the early regular PS2 machines had a fair few probs like this - is it just teething trouble or will I get a decent unit first off?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

I got a slimline pstwo from VG+ at launch, they ship using DHL and they did mark down mine. I've had no problem with mine and it's being used to get through the RPG's at the moment!

That's pretty much what I wanted to hear!

It would make sense to ask them to mark the thing down right?!

Also I seem to recall reading that the power supply is a dual voltage one or something, meaning that I can just get a standard UK figure 8 lead thing and plug it straight in, hence no need for a stepdown right?

      Cheers

Everything I've ever had from them has been marked down to $20 without asking, but it can't hurt to ask them to make sure.

        That is correct.

          Excellent news!

It seems like they are the best place to order one from then!

I have ordered games from them before and never had a problem, always arrived quickly and marked down, so I assume they are just as great at sending consoles too!

Anyone know how long it takes for DHL to deliver if I order one?

Aside from that they machines are all ok right? I mean nobody here has had an problems with them?

Granted I am replacing my 3 year old (GT3 pack) machine with this slim machine, so I guess it must be better!

Can anyone tell me how you actually order a ps2 off of vg+? I went into the hardware and accessories category for the ps2, it wasn't there. I did a search using the search engine, still nothing? How do you order one?

I simply typed in 'PS2 Console' in the search box.

Here PS2 @ VG+ if you feel lazy

As I matter of fact I did - was just going to update this thread!

I sent a couple of emails before hand and asked about marking down, I was told it would be and that VG+ have sent loads of these (and DS machines) with no problems.

Ordered the machine Monday evening, shipping confirmation came via email Tuesday, machine arrived at my house this morning! (That's a mere 4 days from order to arrival!)

It was marked down as $20 Cadanian, no tax, no asking for money at the door.

I suppose it is quite possible I could get a letter and have to pay import duty later (like you do with Fedex) but tax on something costing $20 is not going to be much.

?120 all in, a complete bargain!

I see VG+ will sell US PSPs when they come out, with the same DHL shipping - works out around ?155 all in!

After this experience I will definately be giving them my money when I need new consoles!

Got my machine today from VG+ (3/03/05) the DHL guy didn't ask for money at the door, although i did have my wallet in my hand just in case. Like friction, the package was marked down to $20 CAD. I just hope i don't get a letter saying you owe us .....

I got the machine just to play RPG's as i already own the asian version of the machine. At last i can play Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne........ and others.

so they mark packages down anyway , so i dont have to email them to do it ?

also are these packaged well as i'm tempted to order one to play my copy of gt4 i got coming from tronixweb

power wise what do i need a convertor or just swap the lead from the psu unit to an uk lead ?

You don't need to email ahead to get it marked down, but I would ask for it to be done in the 'Special Intructions' box when making your order

As far as the power goes, you need to use the little power box that comes with the machine, but instead of using the 2 pin figure 8 lead that comes with, use a regular UK one and you can run it right off UK mains.

                        Hope that made sense

ah good least it not like the gamecube one where you cant change the power lead.

think i'm gonna order one now and save myself 40 quid

also can you mod these ?
