    Securi-tah

Im crap, and I know I am. As I have to remember about 8 million passwords each and every day, I find I write them down on a text file hidden away on my PC, which is pretty bad practice. None of the other stuff I have is really worth me worrying about, but I wondered what or how you guys protect such sensitive information from prying eyes?

I have a hierarchy of passwords - unique ones for important stuff down to generic ones that are used for loads of things. That way I only have about 10 passwords to remember. The main problem is remembering which password I used where.

The alternate is the 'wallet' feature of my mobile but I'm a bit dubious about that. So far I only use it for frequent flyer numbers and unimportant junk like that.

Sounds like you need one of those new MS keyboards that reads your fingerprint every time you are asked to enter a password.

No idea how well it works but it does sound very funky.

        or

I have a very complicated system of an excel file with all my passwords, which has 2 passwords on it. Lucky I don't forget those Probably not the best or most secure way to do it but I think it does for me.

I use a program called Steganos Security Suite. It creates encrypted virtual drives that open on password (as hard drives) then dissappear when the program is closed. They drives are .sle files that use some sort of strong encryption. Apart from that it allows you to hide files inside BMP, WAV, JPG, and JPEG files.

It also can destroy files using a multipe overwriting procedure so that even if you sell your PC, people wont be able to recover any of your files. It apparently does this to a military standard.

It also has a password manager that I have not messed with yet but says it will allow you to store all of your passwords in one place securely.

Got it for free off the cover off Personal Computer World a few months back which also had a free PDF printer that I use VERY often.

Presumebly standard file encryption via NTFS which prevents another user from opening an encrypted document isnt enough? Ive not tested this as yet, will do later on.

I try to minimise the amount of personal passwords i use. I currently have 3 which is manageable but they are all complex.

Work is a different matter, i just moved the password used at my last place to my current job.

@Olumpichero. Surprisingly not. A few pictures of women, most are up in the thread where we appreciate the fairer sex, but nothing really seedy. I did have a stash of a couple of clips (nothing particularly sick) but I deleted them.

Remember them :P Make up stories to remember them with, makes it far easier.

In my last job I had to remember about 20 passwords. Had to learn them all... :\
