    PS2 Problems

Is it possible to replace the DVD drive inside a PS2 should it crap out? Mine has suddenly started taking ages to load games and occasionally makes a really nasty grinding and clunking noise.

    Anyone else had this problem?

You can get a new laser for the drive, but to be honest m8 its not really worth it. I can put you in touch with someone who buys dying PS2's for about ?60 or repairs them, but you can buy a 2nd hand one with a guarantee for about a ?100 from somewhere like Cash Generator. A new laser would be about ?50-?60 fitted.

Thanks for the info. I'll give you a pm regarding your contact if I decide to bin it.

Question is if it does pack up do I replace it with another standard UK machine or do I go for a chipped one.

if your ps2 is one of the early version ones then its about to die. you be better getting another one.

a modded uk ps2 with messiah 2 if you play or have some import games otherwise ring sony and i think they'll exchange it for another ps2 for about 70 quid i think.

Its one of the first UK models (not bought on day of release but not long after). Its the only region locked console of this generation that I own and there are a few games I'd like to play but currently can't.

Given how much I spend on games I ought to take the sensible option and exchange it.... but knowing my lack of self restraint I bet I end up with a chipped one
