Dell Dvd drive & TFT question

Am considering buying a PC from Dell, have been looking at choosing the components on their website and I notice they have a:
16x max. DVD+/-RW with double layer write capability.
Does this drive also write CD's as I couldn't work this out from their site description.

Also am considering going with a Dell 1704FP 17" UltraSharpTM Flat Panel Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand
has anyone seen one in action, and is it worth going with this display rather than the:
FP / MG 17in (E173FP) TCO99 Value Midnight Grey Flat Panel, which is ?83.43 cheaper

it will write CD's yes, screen wise we have Dell ones at work and never played games on them but seem good enough to me, suggest you check out refresh rates etc or try googling for some reviews.

I'm using the value 17 inch tft here, and it seems to be fine for me. I've never noticed any kind of problems with watching DVD's or playing games. But I don't go looking for them either.

We just had the value 17 panels in work. Nice display, although initial tests of fast tracking (moving a window around quickly) left some blur. Haven't got round to installing anything of worth to test it properly yet, only unpackaged them yesterday. They're analogue only, too.

Let me know how they turn out, and when you refer to them being analogue, does this mean to do with the inputs, and how would this affect the running of the display?

Analogue only = no DVI-D input. So you've got an unnecessary D-A, A-D stage going on. In theory this means the image quality isn't as good.

I wonder if the Dell UltraSharp Flat Panel Monitor is digital?
