    Mega CD screwed?

Finally got my Japanese MCD1 set up and I get the logo screen with music but the access light keeps flashing and the CD tray goes in and out every couple of seconds. No different if you put a the disc in. Help!

Any chance it could be because I'm using a 10V PSU and not 9V?

on the uk machine it's usually "insert disc"

Only a suggestion but the reset button on your megadrive isn't held down is it?

It says it is in the middle of checking the disc.

            Looks like it's a laser problem doesn't it >_<
Anyone had this before? Anyone know someone who would take a look at it?

I know the machine enough to open it up and manually clean the laser etc but don't have any meters for increasing the pot size etc.

Well you know more than me I'm just waiting (hoping) for someone to tell me they've experienced this before and what causes it but it looks like I might have to find someone who would look at it for me. I don't hold out much hope of fixing this tbh

Found this on a site earlier, Similar problem to u

"The only problem I've had is with my first Sega CD. I bought it at launch, and after about 5 years the games wouldn't stay in the machine. After loading a game into it, the tray would just pop right back out again. I would have to hit open/close about a dozen times before it finally read the disc. "

I've never had, or even seen a MegaCD, but from what you say it sounds like the tab that detects drive tray open may well be stuck. Had a look at that?

Beccedee1 has refered me to the site as I used to work with her in the past repairing consoles and the likes.

I've come across the symptoms ur having in the past but can't for the life remember what the problem was. I doubt it's the laser as the machine is spitting the drive out without a disc in, check ur reset button on the megadrive and also try putting in the CD, Turning off the unit, then turning it on with the drive already closed.

                        Lemme know

                          Thanks Beccedee1
Tried that jeimuzu, and the reset button is fine. The green power light is on and red access light is flashing which means "CD Out" on the panel which suggests a tray fault, however, this never stops, even when it goes back in (before whirring and popping out again for a couple of seconds). The checking disc message never goes either, even when the tray is out so I can't even get past that screen.

Sounds as if ur tray isn't dropping into place inside the unit then, If it is that it's quite a simple thing to sort but like anything it's difficult to say exactly what it is.

I live in the Midlands near tewksbury and i'l gladly look at the unit for u if u live close by?

I don't but I'd be willing to post it to you if I can't get it working myself. I know jack about these things so I wouldn't dare open it up myself. May well get back to you on this. Thanks for the help.
