    Chipping Xbox

I'm thinking of chipping my xbox with an Xecuter 2.6. Baring in mind that I have never soldered before, how difficult is it to actually fit?

From looking at the installation instructions it seems I would only need to do a small amount of soldering (soldering in a pin header and then the d0 cable)?

If you've never soldered, you might be better off paying a tenner for one of the many solderless adaptors. That's what I did, and had no problems.

Or softmodding; does everything you could want that a chipped box can.

True, if you've already got the gear required to softmod.

Otherwise, it's a no-brainer to pay 20 quid for an Xecuter 2.6+Solderless Adaptor package and get it done in hardware.

Not really, I mean it's up to whether you really want the extra few features a chip provides or not; I guess some would prefer going out getting a 2nd hand copy of Splinter Cell for ?8 and a memory card from Poundland and then getting someone to stick the package on the card for them for the price of a stamp or two.....

Saves opening the box also; just in case

I've got an Xecutor chipped box, but having done a number of softmods for mates if I only got one now I wouldn't bother with a chip.

I've been using one since October with a solderless adaptor, and it's never failed me.
It comes with a little switch panel to turn the mod off.

Here is a guide on how to install using the solderless adaptor http://www.teamxecuter.com/xapter/

Once your modchip comes, you have to flash it with bios that allows you to boot imports/backups (this is the way all mods are going nowerdays... keeps them legal as stock). Guide - http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/f...dchip-evox.php
Get bios files using this guide http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php

And finally, if you wanna load anything from hard drive, you need to install an alternate dashboard - http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/evox-install.php

I know it sounds like a long process, but it's not. There are loads of tutorials here http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php If you hit any problems, messege me on an IM service and I'll be glad to talk you through it.

Thanks for all the comments so far guys.

I'm swaying towards getting solderless mod, I took the top off the xbox to have a nose around and happened to notice just how small the connection points i would need to solder were! :O

the solderless chip adapters are good, just make sure you secure it properly, as the adapter has a thin wire that you bend about and poke into the d0 hole. we have one at work for xbox repairing and it's still fine even though it's been in at least 20 xboxes so far!

Indeed. Many people complain about the solderless adaptors, but provided they are secured in tight, they don't come loose.

My Xbox is softmodded at the mo, with a Live-blocking bios, so I shouldn't really need a chip... but I have to say, I never knew it was so easy to install one this way, and it looks like they can be had fairly inexpensively. Tempted to think about going the whole hog and getting one of these now...

Someone mentioned ?20, can it be possible to get one of these kits that cheap??
