    DVD Dual Layer Writer

    Need to order this ASAP...

But I am wondering if it will run on my girlfriends machine. Problem is I MUST have it by the weekend and I won't see her machine till then so I'm running on guesswork. The machine they have is Windows ME so obviously compatible - The main issue I am having is whether it will be compatible with her motherboard.

Would a new machine around the time of ME likely have a motherboard to support a dvd writer of these specs? (I'm mainly thinking IDE/ATA).

Almost definitely. I had an old Gigabyte 7VTXE (years old!) that worked with my NEC2500A without any problems whatsoever. IDE/ATA is standardised, so the very worst that will happen is that it'll run slightly slow (I don't think DVD-RW drives max out even ATA66 speeds though, although I may be wrong)

EDIT - forgot to say, I had Me installed on the machine at the time I bought the NEC

as long as the pc is 500mhz or more and has plenty of ram it should work fine

its just like adding another cdrom or dvdrom drive

Yeah, all IDE CDROMs/CDRWs/DVDRWs etc use ATA33 speed. Even my old 200mhz Pentium system supports that.
