    Need A New Tv...help!!!

Just a technical query really about new TV's and playing imported, retro consoles on them, namely an imported Super Famicom on a UK set.

Before anyone says it, I DID read Jez Overtons detailed article on the subject and as good as it is, some of it has still left a layman like me, slightly unsure.

I opted for the Japanese version of Nintendo's 16-bit wonder machine so I can enjoy games how the developers wanted them to be seen i.e. no borders, sharp, colourful image etc. So that said, what should I definately be looking out for.

Is 100Hz vital, or will a decent 50Hz set still be good for displaying a decent image?

RGB Scart? Is that all I need to successfully connect to the SFC and still get the clear image I crave?

Are machine mods on the SFC needed or is the SFC good to go straight away out of the box?

    What is NTSC playback?

I think that's all my questions for now, I'm sure I'll think of more tomorrow, thanks in advance for any answers to my questions, any advice will help alot.

BTW, my budget is around ?250-300

    You don't need 100hz. I wouldn't bother personally.

RGB scart will give you the best picture on a famicon. So yes, you need one of those on your TV.

NTSC playback is basically like a foreign signal (a US machine or JPN plugged in for example)

I really recomend one of the Sonys, you should be able to get a 21inch screen for that money, and the picture is amazing on them for retro consoles. Go for it.

Do you want a new tv for modern games as well? If you are looking for something big say a widescreen, then they nearly all feature 100hz. Some people hate 100hz mainly because it was quite crap in the past; these days though most 100hz modes are good. Any decent tv will let you turn the 100hz off anyway; my old Sony 32inch did.

If I was going to buy a tv just for retro though, I would go for the Sony 007 chose; its a great tv with a sharp crisp display and is perfect for retro fun!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. I'm only after something suitable for an small office sized room so a large 32" flat screen running at 100Hz is gonna be wasted on me.

Both TV's listed look great, I really only need it for watching the odd programme and playing my retro consoles, namely my newly aquired SFC and my existing JPN AES.

          Thanks again
