    5.1/Surround Sound Headphones

Thought these might be of interest to folks here, and wondering if anyone has tried them. They seem to be getting good reviews but at the price(?33)I`d have thought they`d be pretty crappy

    They can be bought here

I've got a set. They actually work quite well, but are obviously not a patch on a proper 5.1 system (they're ideal for me cos I can't hook my system up to my consoles and PC due to space)

The connections are a bit tricky to get your head around at first, and the bass can be dangerously loud, so beware if you get a set.

I almost went deaf after playing Doom 3 with them.

Are there any 5.1 headphones you can hook upto an AV Receiver? I've got a nice speaker system but late at night it'd be good to be able plug in some headphones and listen through them. Any suggestions?

I thought that`s what these were for. Same problem here, I need something to use with my reciever late at night that doesn`t wake up the whole house.

Thanks for the info Spatial, how have you got yours set up?

Those headphones are great, I use them.

Not so much for the 5.1 element, but they just make really good stereo headphones. You can have the stereo signal cloned to all of the speakers and the bass is immense. It was rather tricky to get all of the connections and drivers sorted out to the best settings but I'm glad I did.

The headphones come with an box for main volume control. Basically you plug the headphone into the box (there's an additional socket for an extra set) and then the cables from the rear of the box goes into my PC (there's an adjuster on the cord of the headphones themselves for balance, rear speaker volume etc ).

I'm not sure if its cos my Soundblaster sound card is quite old, but it was trial and error getting the connections right as the colours on the jacks and the sockets didn't match at all.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't hook it up to your reciever. I just couldn't to mine cos there were no spare connections.

              Surround Headphones?

Has anyone tried these? There are a few different ones available. I'm not in the position to blast the sound out over 5 speakers in the study, but feel it would be great to have the "Surround" sound feeling when playing games.

I read about some called Zalman ZM-RS6F+M Real Sourround Sound Headphones but I've never tried these sort of thing.

Has anyone tried? Do they actually give a feeling of sounds coming from back right/left front right/left?

Could be cool! And at 40 quid, cheaper than speakers anyway!

(I bought an Auidgy 2 platinum second hand as a sound card.)

I guess they have multiple speakers inside each side?

.. well that was confusing - topic got merged while I was writing a reply.

Yeah, they have multiple speakers inside each earpiece. They're not going to be as good as a proper speaker set-up but they do work.

You have to make sure you've got them set up correctly though. Unlike seperate speakers, it's not always clear if all of the internal speakers are operating. If you're listening to a stereo source then you have to make sure the signal is being cloned to the 'rear' ones and split off to the internal sub too.

The 'Speedlink Medusa' (non-USB) set are definitely the ones to get.
