What have I done to my Ibook?

I was trying to install DivX earlier, and in a rage, I deleted lots of stuff.

I think I accidently deleted a program which opens files you've downloaded, because i've downloaded 2 things now, and in the download box, they're just a brown file that cannot be opened. I think they ended in the extension .sit or something.

    Any help?

Also, I can't get Divx to work, as I need to play some AVI files. Anything else I can use to play them?

    Regards
    Scott

For the DivX files issue, you can try installing the XviD codec instead, but apart from that you're ****ed.

Download Stuffit Expander to crack open those .sit files...

You should use VLC to watch .avi files, and pretty much anything else.

Dont need to worry about codecs or any such ****.

use VLC, or Mplayer for all your codec needs, and like everyones said, redownload stuffit to fix your expanding issues.

God damn it. Why is it trying to charge me to download stuffit? I can only find a free 15 day trial, does anyone know where to get the full one free?

Actually, thinking about it, the software should be on your install discs. Start a system install as per usual, but when it asks you what you want to install, have a bit of a dig around and see if you just install the Stuffit software.

edit - And if the worst comes to the worst, a complete clean install of OSX will only take you 40 minutes, maximum.

40 minutes, have you got OSX lite or something?

your not still looking for stuffit are you?

this is free to expand things, and free to compress things as long as you dont mind waiting a few seconds each time instead of paying.

Stuffit Expander is free. Full version of Stuffit will cost you money, because it compresses too.

But hey, you don't need that, because you can just gzip tarballs on the command line
