Cheers John. Wonder if my own cable can be fiddled with to switch the TV.
A question for Saurian i guess.

My Blaze cable has a little black switch for composite DVD playback in colour. My other Blaze one doesn't. Have you tried flicking that?

I'm using an Svideo lead to my plasma, and I kid you not, the picture quality is fantastic, and i'm used to using progressive scan all the time.

if its the argos splitter have you got the rgb button pressed in. also try plugging it into scart 1 as this is normally the rgb one.

which tv is it as you might have to select rgb as not all tv will switch to rgb channel so you'd get a composite signal

Tried all possible switches, just seems the Blaze cable wont enable RGB on my tv,have to get the X-Box to do it.
Gonna order an Ixos and see if that works.

Cheers for all the replies guys. Anyone know if the Blaze cable can be tweaked,or would an amplified splitter work,i.e one with a PSU?

if it doesn't switch over to av, by you turning on the console, its the lead or your tv cant auto switch to rgb mode and you manually select it on the remote

you haven't said what make/model of tv you have ?

Of all things its a Sony digital, yet all my other consoles (7) enable the rgb. I can manually select the av channel, but rgb doesn't engage unless i switch something else on.
Hopefully the Ixos will be here tomorrow and cure it.

sounds like the cable isnt wired up properly for autoswitching. As wod says, just choose RGB on the TV remote (on mine I press AV and it cycles through AV1,2,3 and RGB)

I get what you mean, but i select the av1,which it is in,from the remote (as the PS2 itself wont do it) and the picture is still not rgb. Only having something with a stronger signal then kicks the tv into rgb mode. If the majority of peoples PS2's do switch the Tv i guess its a combination of the cable being not wired properly, as you say,and my TV not liking that particular cable.
Keep em crossed for me tomorrow when the Ixos shows as im getting the fear having the X-Box on aswell. Keep expecting it to spontaneously combust!

Have you checked the video setting on the PS2 is set to RGB
                        You can do what???

I havent altered any settings since i was using the craptastic standard ps2 scart to now when im using my ixos rpg. so you can change this settings? i thought the ps2 just detected the lead or something of that sort and woila? do all consoles have these options? are they inside the game or the console options somewhere o.O

yes i am incredibly stupid before you ask

There in the console settings. Just start the console without any game in. All consoles have this.

Start it up with the tray open and go to the setting below browser, its in there. Cant remember the name of it. Video output should be rgb. If u were using rgb before its probably set anyway.

                            *beaten to it.

thank you very much for both of your help.

i was only using scart before, since then i have been using a budget rgb and now ixos one but havent changed settings

so theres me thinking it had made a smalled difference and it clearly wasnt even set up ! *kicks self*

The setting is only their to tell the system if you are using an RGB or Y/Cb/Pb/Cr Pr connection.

The setting is irrelevant when using RF, Composite or S-Video connection and if you are using an RGB cable at the moment and the picture displays correctly the setting is fine as switching to the other will make the image display all green.

As for Paveynick's problem, it sounds to me like the voltage to Pin 16 on the SCART lead isn't strong enough (iirc Pin 16 is the one that tells the TV to switch to RGB).
