Issues regarding DC VMU saves

First off am i right in assuming they are universal?

Now the issue, im playing MLB 2K2 on my PAL DC via the DC-X disc.

Now my saves seem to work but when i return to the game either the scores have changed on my schedule or there are missing games that i have finished.

So i ask whats up?
