Importing a PSP from the USA

    Hi Everyone,

In two weeks I'm off to the USA and am seriously thinking about buying a PSP as I'm fed up with waiting for Sony to announce a European release date.

As I'm new to this importing business, could someone kindly answer a couple of concerns that have entered my mind ?

1 - If I buy a US PSP where will I be able to obtain a power adaptor to ensure that it can run in the UK ? Would I need to buy one at all ?

2 - Will European or Japanese PSP games run on the US PSP hardware ?

    Thanks.

    1. I use one of them small shaving adapters on my JPN PSP and it does the job fine. Couple of quid from most places.

    2. I think the official line is that Sony won't enforce region locking on games but leave it up to the devs/publishers. I'm sure I saw an IGN article saying that the US Need For Speed worked fine in a JPN PSP. I'm hoping to test my JPN PSP with some PAL review code (Ridge, Wipeout Pure and a footy game) next week though.

Some games probably won't work if you try to play a network game using the same game from different territories. Then again, some may work fine.

      1) You only need a travel plug like this.

      2) Yes, games are region-free, UMD-movies are not.

        1. You just need to buy a "figure of eight" power lead. I bought mine for like ?4 from B&Q
        2. Yes, Japanese and European games will play on it. Games are region free.

          Thanks everyone,

I think I'll take the plunge then. Didn't think about region coding on UMD's but I'm after it principally as a gaming device anyway.

          Cheers.

Ok I'm still kinda unsure about how I would charge the PSP. Is it like the GC where you need a stepdown or do I just need a different plug to put over the two pin US plug.

You need a fiqure of eight cable ie one that power DC/Ps2 power supply.

You don't need a stepdown, just an adaptor. I've gone for a USB charger anyway, you can get them for about a fiver from Lik Sang.

                  This one?

                  I'm highly confused.

                  Or Me

                  Or Or Me

You need one cable to transfer stuff and another cable to charge it?

anephric - wise words. I am PS2less. Always have been, always will.

Edited post above with different cables from Lik-Sang. I cant see which one to go with.

You have an Xbox? That'll do the trick too.

Ginza - check the link in my post near the top. You plug that onto the AC-adapter that comes along with the PSP - plug it in the socket - PSP recharging!
