I don't think many people at all know how to fix the blown sound problem, which would be why.

Another reason is that Cubes are so cheap these days you may as well just replace a duff one. Shame the sound boards that go aren't compatible between the Q and the Cube, really.

Dave - I'm not leaving the UK just for now. If I was I'd be on here berating MS and Sony for not providing a multi voltage psu for the 0.1%. I'd probably be slapping my forehead and making funny noises too.

My Q is becoming a little creaky.
About 1 in 10 times it won't recognise a game unless I turn the machine on without a game in it, select game and open the tray and insert disc when prompted.

God knows what the issue is, it plays DVD's fine all the time.
Had it for over 2 years so it might be wear and tear I suppose on the laser.

Okay chaps, the Q was opened up last night and I found the fuse and a company is sending me a "free sample" of the replacement fuse in the mail. I stuck a different voltage fuse in briefly to make sure it was in fact the fuse and it worked a treat. It will be fixed by the weekend.

Didn't stop me buying a second hand PAL gamecube though. I traded in the **** bundled games and the pads I didn't need back to gamestation at the same time and got the thing for ?20. Win.

Suck my cock about the remedial comments As if you've never made a mistake in a rush!

The original gamecubes are perfectly designed that you can just get a new plug from Ninty Europe for a import cube. Putting the PSU inside the console is ****ing stupid, and I don't expect either PS3 or the new Xbox to do it, simply to save space.

Glad to hear you got it sorted and that it was just a replacement fuse that was needed. The exact same thing happened to me... and thankfully my mate replaced one of the fuses and it was fine.

This is going to seem terribly rude, but - how do you make this mistake?
I guess I'm just really paranoid and overly careful with the voltage issue, but it just seems odd to do it with a Q - something only available in Japan - of all things... :S

I ask because wherever you go, you constantly seem to hear about blown Qs.

Its a problem if you've got loads of different cable at the back of you TV. Plug the wrong one in and bang. I assume it happens with import Xbox and PS2.

It happened to me, my housemate at uni set it up. He just grabbed one of the cables (i think it was the plug for my pal dc) and just plugged it in. I was in the room but not really paying attention, i looked over just just as he plugged it in, the little red light came on briefly and then just faded away. Straight away I knew what had happened, I couldnt speak for hours i thought i was going to be sick.

I didn't react that badly, it was just a quick thing tbh. I just thought "meh, haven't played the thing since RE4 and I've beaten that."

                        I have a few replacement 2A 125V 5mm x 20mm fuses left if anyone wants one.

I hope he was sorry, I'd be livid.

I would very much like one of those replacement fuses Ed. If not, could you please tell me where I could get them?

Exactly!! I was tidying all the wires behind the TV and making all my consoles nice and neat and sure enough i just got the cables mixed up and then POOF!!

If it's only the fuse that has gone then maybe i'll try and tackle it myself, however i am a cack handed fool so how easy is it to open up and fix?? Is the fuse easy to get to?

                              Cheers for any info!!
