Setting up a cutdown account in XP

OK I am trying to make a faster account in XP for games, so I am trying to clean out the startup tasks, although some have been removed there are lots of crap which seem to be running anyway for things like printer software etc, all of which I can ditch for games playing, how do I disable them in this account only?

The majority of background tasks are started from the "run" section of the registry. Or from services.

You could move these tasks from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to the HKEY_USERS, but, you would need to copy it to all accounts other than the one you're trying to avoid for your games account.

It's probably just easier killing the background tasks before you start running any games, most such software is unlikely to have a huge impact on system performance anyway.

www.blackviper.com have a section dedicated to what services you can safely disable etc.

Don't make a new account, clear all but the essentials in your normal account and everything will be faster!

You can use MSconfig to disable everything on the startup tab, everything there will usually not be needed. I do recommend keeping the firewall running at all times though, you never know.

Kind of I just wondered if clearing off this rubbish would make playing some games more stable
