    stubborn xbox disc (not working)

i bought a game off this site a week ago (Halo if you must know) and it has issues about working in my machine. it arrived and i took a look at the disc, shiny... like it had hardly been used.

i pop it in my xbox, "disc is scratched/dirty"

i managed to get it working after much opening/closing of the drive door but it eventually crashed

so on reccomendation i took it to get it professionally cleaned, i swear i haven't seen a cleaner shinier disc but it still doesn't want to work. (i also got a 2nd hand copy of Mat Hoffman 2 which is pretty scratched but works fine)

i'm kinda annoyed, i know the seller wouldn't sell a non working copy, but does anyone here know any household tricks that might be able to help?

(i remember an old DC game trick, which involved dipping the game in boiling water for a very short period of time... can't say i ever needed to do that though)

help, i only want to play games!

You may need to replace your Xbox DVD drive.

In the meantime, you may want to try standing the machine on it's side (sounds mad - but apps, emus etc which dont boot on mine always do so with this method.)

Out of curiosity is the game imported from australia? cos i have the exact same problem with Australian pal games. My game being splinters cell. i guess the games arenot as compatable as we're lead to believe.

hey crisp, sorry I havent been in contact for a few days!

Firstly, I can answer that question 112, as I sold the game to crisp! Its not Australian, its a Uk PAL copy, and a brand new one at that. The fact that it worked fine on my xbox makes it even more of a mystery.

Boil the ****er, seriously i have done this myself, bit of broken matchstick, bit of string, data side down in a boiling pot on the oven, 15-20 secs at a time. Had to do this with a CDRW that i had made for mp3's my xbox would not read em, did afterwards tho - alternatively bull**** a game store say it was a present, get a swap.

GL - dont go burning ya pinkies.......

I heard Halo was particularly susceptible to the "dirty disc" problem. I think it's a drive problem, but again, Halo will probably be the only game which messes up.

Try renting a copy of Halo and see if it works.
