    Softmodding an Xbox

I'm planning to softmod my Xbox, and I was wondering whether it would be possible to use an iPod instead of a USB memory key, as the iPod is technically just a USB mass storage device.

Does this work? Has anyone tried it? I'm a bit worried because the Integral 128MB memory key I have isn't listed as working with Xbox .

    Thanks a lot!

Cheers for the reply. Another tenner on a Datel Max Drive or whatever it's called then.

You can use pendrives for softmodding, then? Cool. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've decided, since I've just killed my Live account (on the grounds that I wasn't using it) to look at softmodding the box, as long as there's no big expenditure or high chance of me killing the thing.

it'll format whatever you connect so if you did plug in an ipod or mp3 player or whatever, it'd get formatted to fatx (xbox's file system).

I wasn't thinking of an iPod this time, but my 256Mb pendrive. Presumably I'd still need a USB-to-XBox converter and to find one of the old games that had a bug in them, however.

better raid your local gamestation/cex/whatever as you can't use the re-released budget versions (they were fixed)

I'm planning on softmodding my xbox soon as well, and I have a couple of questions! I already have the original release of Splinter Cell, so I'm all set.

                1. I'm planning on hooking up an xbox controller to my PC via a USB cable, and transferring the files that way. Is there any special software I need, or does the memory card just show up as a removable device?

                2. If I want to just allow 720p, etc, do I need to change anything on the hard-drive? IE can I just boot a video-change disc after using the exploint, or do I have to do the whole installation of Evolution-X?

                3. I've been told to get the all-in-one file, which contains everything needed. Does anyone have the filename or can point me the right way? (obviously no links or anything against the forum rules).

                  1. Ive never got this to work so if someone else can elaborate on this that would be great. Apparently it works with the Action Replay software but my PC just detects the USB key and fails to load the drivers. Instead I use a Mega X Key, MaxDrive etc... USB Memory Card.

                  2. If you just want HD video output you dont have to install the whole package, merely just trigger the gamesave hack which loads the installer. Most of the installers out there have FTP capability so you can drop the VideoSelector software onto the HDD of the Xbox in order to just run that and back out without installing the softmod itself.

                  3. Thing is, why not just install the whole package? You get the benefits of using other software such as the superb Xbox Media Center which now has DVD menu support, plus the soft-mod is easily removable or can be turned on/off much like a modchip can.

The best installer I have seen is the Krayzie Ndure Installer for either Splinter Cell or Mechassault. Have a look at the XBE Exploits forum on xbox-scene.com and also have a look at their tutorial on how to use XBins...
