PS1 games on PS2

Well, I was hoping that my PS2 would run Castlevania, but it appears to lock-up everytime when i reach the dialogue with Maria only a short time into the game.

Now I am aware that some PS1 games do not work on the PS2, so I presume this is one of them?

So my questions are

1. Does anyone have a link to a compatilbilty list for Ps1 games on the PS2
2. Can anyone confirm that they get the same problem with their game.

I will probably buy a psone just to play this game as to be honest it looked pretty aweful squashed on the Ps2 screen anyway.

The US version of Castlevania Symphony of the Night plays perfectly on my modded PAL PS2.

TBH it sounds like there's a scratch on the disk.

Yeah I checked the disc, looks like its that as I just bought another and it works fine. Thanks for the list though
