    Xbox High Definition Question.

Just bought a new Aquos LCD TV that supports Prog Scan, I already have a modded Xbox (using the Enigmah region select) and will soon be getting a Xbox High Definition AV cable.

All my games are Pal, will they output 480p as if they were NTSC games - or am I going to have to start building my games library up from scratch?

    Thanks in advance.

    Yeah, they'll play in 480p.

SoulCalibur 2 is 720p, and one of the terminators plays in 1080i. There's a website somewhere that'll tell you every xbox game that supports progressive scan.

I've recently done the same thing with my Xbox. The vast majority of UK Pal games run in 480p without any problems (all mine are fine).

I have heard that there a couple of Pal games (Madden 2005?) that run fast in NTSC mode but haven't experienced this myself.

I'd suggest trying your Pal games out 1st and then just replace any that don't work with the US version.

      Hope this helps!

You were faster on the buzzer 007!

The site your talking about is HDTV Arcade. Link as follows:

        Cheers.

Okay, but here's me being clueless... how exactly do I force my Xbox into prog-scan mode? Is it automatic once I put it into NTSC mode (I'm using a modded machine as well, on a plasma screen through component) and I use software that's compatible? Or is there something else I have to do?

If you've already got the NTSC frontend, you just need to go into the VIDEO options and enable 480p, 720p etc.

I use simple words so man from games mag, he unnerstand

Use the Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc program, press either A or B to set to NTSC (forget which button it is). Then power off the Xbox. Turn it on again and go to the Microsoft dashboard as anephric said - then if you have the Component cable plugged in, you'll be able to turn on the various modes.

Okay, I'll try that... although I don't think I've got the same system as you guys here (never heard of Enigmah, although it works in the same way - A for PAL, B for NTSC) so it might not work. It's a PAL Xbox and although I do have a PAL/NTSC setting option, I've never seen it offer me multiple video modes through the basic dashboard when set in NTSC mode... I'll try it tonight and then come back here if it doesn't happen.

Enigmah Video Selector is one of early video mode switching application. since it's unsigned by M$ yu will need the chip'd xbox to run or use exploit... once changed your xbox will output in that video mode regardless the region setting of the box...

the HDTV options also don't appear unless you have the HD pack connected.

you can hook up Yellow cable of YUV into your telly's composite input and see BW screen of dashboard so you can turn on 480p/720p/1080i under video option...

                            Several things to point out:

                            1) I'm a dullard - the NTSC/PAL selector program on my Xbox IS the Enigmah one, but as the name is written in big letters across the background (rather than as part of anything I actually needed to look at), I'd never actually noticed.

                            2) It worked! I switched all the options on and it immediately looked a million times sharper and better. My Xbox titles have never looked so wonderful. Thanks for your help, guys.

And then my plasma screen blew up - clearly, running F-Zero GX through it in progressive scan was too much awesomeness for it to cope with. Bah. Thank god it's still under warranty... four days after I bought it.
