DS Modification Q

I remember shortly after the DS was released, there was a page telling how to mod a DS to play GB titles.
Obviously first reaction would be that it's a hoax... but a fair amount of people claimed to gotten it working.

So what's the deal with this mod? Real thing or bad joke?

you needed the movie player and it would only play gba files smaller than 255kb or something like that
